About Me

About Michelle Uetz

Michelle has a wide range of experiences from which to draw knowledge and ideas.  She is an educator, writer, speaker, advocate, and parent.  Michelle has been an educator since 2001.  She now uses her education, personal, and family experience to advocate for those who struggle with mental illness and substance use.  Michelle has experienced depression and anxiety herself and learned to manage it.  She has taught students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.  Michelle helped her sister through her struggles with mental illness and domestic violence, which ultimately lead to her sister's suicide in 2016.  Later in 2016, Michelle and her husband obtained guardianship of a family member's two girls who were 13 and 8 at the time.  These girls joined their family which already consisted of their own three boys who were 13, 11, and 8.  Michelle and her husband soon learned that the girls had experienced more trauma than they realized and they were diagnosed with several mental health disorders.  Michelle and her husband provided treatment, county assistance, education, counseling, and everything they could to the girls.  Despite their best efforts both girls eventually went to other placements.  Michelle now works to create awareness of mental illness, substance use disorders, suicide, domestic violence, special education, and healthy relationships, and sexuality education.
